KEITH LEVENE is a gifted individual who has always been captivated by the array of possibilities life offers. He can focus simultaneously on vastly varied subjects from applied mathematics, video games, and is a true technocrat as well as a truly amazing creator of music who takes immense pleasure in the music of others. Keiths taste in music is catholic, embracing the entire spectrum. As a toddler, his mother was concerned because her son would stare at records as they went round and round on the turntable. As a teenager, Keith spent eight hours a day practicing guitar. When he formed the Clash with Mick Jones he was so proficient as to be a formidable band-mate. Later, in PiL, he and John [Rotten] Lydon created a marriage between guitar and poetry that has never been reproduced. Tracks such as Theme showcase Keiths innovative expertise. In 2002, with his release of Killer in the Crowd, his direction is clear. He did not disappear or stop making music. In fact, he is now a wicked singer and bassist as well. Keith also plays piano and has two cellists he wants to work with in the near future. New songs flow out of him like a river concurrent with ideas that are more suited to Bell Labs than EMI. Though the business of music has become truly inept and silly, Keith, while pursuing a number of other interests, has tended to write, perform and produce tracks hes enthusiastic about releasing. Still, he considers Commercial Zone an unfinished project. This says it all regarding the thought hes now putting into releasing his music only to have it nabbed, stolen and emulated with no credit. Indies are merely poor relatives of the majors. None of them pay their artists and most execs at the biggies dont even answer their phones. One of those employees told Keith as much in a meeting recently. How do they get anything done? They dont if the rehashing of rehashed material by new bands is any measure of musical standards. Still, Keith remains charmingly young and excited by the world, laughing easily and often. Embracing the latest technology and design methods The Missing Channel sets out to bring forward ideas and concepts that Levene can only achieve now with the right setup.CURRENTLY: Keith Levene is releasing what he calls his "CHOCOLATE BOX" which will contain up to four vinyl 45s depending on what "people want" .. it's described as being Varga style artwork with up to four records. The tracks are for 2011, reflecting this allegedly momentous year. Many people think this is a transitional or pivotal year; Levene's music reflects the same. It's new so his fans--and anyone new who hears it--will most likely be happy not only for the gorgeous concept release but the music, which is well above expectations. The entire package will be a nice surprise for everyone. Levene says "I'd rather promote [chocolate] than butter!" As always, Levene likes to deliver a truck load of edge. In our blanc mange media world, this release should wake us up nicely. As with all things Levene, the concept is amorphous just now but has loads of promise. It will be available through Murder Global [keithlevene.com] rather than eBay where Levene's selling special disks at this moment. He plans on recording in Newport [South Wales] as well as other UK recording facilities. Levene writes the music, plays that wicked guitar he's known for and will produce the record. He seems to have all sorts of characters contributing bits and pieces to the project.
